The Affogato

This is my newest favorite drink ever. The above photo shows the awesomely awesome affogato. It's a shot of espresso poured over a scoop of gelato. Today, I decided to add a little spice to my espresso by selecting Saigon Cinnamon. I highly recommend this drink to give yourself a kick in the pants.

I think the trick is picking a gelato (versus a sorbetto). The espresso lends itself to the milk. Unlike the frappe which will spread out a flavor, whichever flavor you pick needs to be strong so it isn't overpowered by the espresso. I believe any of the nut, chocolate, or spice flavors ought to go well with the espresso.

The mix of Saigon Cinnamon gives the already intense espresso flavor a strong cinnamon highlight. Thankfully, it doesn't give the espresso a candy flavor. The texture is thick the way you would imagine a gelato espresso mix being: as thick as a traditional milkshake. It is served in a small coffee cup (pictured above) with a small spoon (not pictured above). You will want to savor this drink, its rich flavor, and its smooth texture.

Overall, I rate it above a frappe but warn that it is not for those who shy away from strong flavors.
