Turnpike Loves Apples

Fall has always been my favorite season. The temperature is (or is supposed to be) cooling, the leaves changing, and let's not forget that the apples are at their best. My family made regular fall trips to an orchard in upstate NY every year until the orchard closed a couple of years ago. Some of my fondest childhood memories revolve around climbing trees, picking apples, drinking cider at the orchard (they made the cider there and had it at a spigot so you would pay a quarter for a cup then have unlimited cider), bringing the apples back to grandma so she would make apple pie, dumplings and so that I could have fresh apples for weeks. Well during my recent trip up and down I-95 (which yielded 3 capogiro's visits in a weekend) I tasted the Apple sorbetti which was FANTASTIC. I brought back all those memories. I was so sweet and fresh, almost like a cider. Instantly I wanted to try it with the peanut butter (thanks to mom for spreading PB on apple slices when I was little) which was delicious but I decided to purchase the apple sorbetti by itself. I returned to NY with 2 pints of Apple sorbetti. 1 of the pints was intended for Chika of chikalicious however during the drive I found out from a friend that she had made her own apple sorbetti that weekend so I decided it might not be the smartest gift. A week and one visit from my mom (who is now also hooked on the pints) later, both pints are gone. If only there was a capogiro's in NY but for now I went out and bought a bunch of apples to satisfy my fall cravings.

  1. I gotta say, that's a very cute photo.
