What have you done for me lately?

In the last couple of weeks I have had a lot of amazing flavors and flavor combinations. I have had a Frappe.
It’s been a good time for apple sorbettos. Capogiro has made several different varieties depending on the variety of apple they had that day. I have liked all of them although I think the McIntosh was the best. They get a lot of the fresh apple taste into every bite with their impossibly smooth yet dairy free sorbetto. I was also recommended to try Peanut Butter and Apple which is ridiculously delicious. The peanut butter is so good but only shows up rarely. The reason it almost never gets made is that they make the peanut butter themselves from fresh roasted peanuts so it’s that extra step that makes this one of the many mythic flavors of Capogiro like unicorns in the Gelato forest. The combination was fantastic as was the peanut butter and Uva Concord. After having the peanut butter apple combo I had a thought. Could I recreate a Caramel apple with Gelato. You know the kind with caramel and fresh peanuts. At first I tried peanut butter, apple and Burnt sugar but that wasn’t right. Mary-Kate suggested I use Dulce De leche instead and she was so right. I tasted just like a fresh caramel apple. So much so that I bought a pint of those three flavors so I could recreate it at home.

Prickly Pear: I also tried the prickly pear the other day which was very creamy and delicious. I like the batch that I tried at 20th street better than the one I had at 13th street a few days later.

Sweet Corn: I was disappointed in this flavor. I was so excited because I have had corn ice cream at other places most notably in Chikalicious in NYC. The flavor at Capogiro was so slight that we had to have a second taste to see if we wanted any. In the end it was too lost in the background to merit even a mini cone. I couldn't even taste that it was corn. Maybe it was because the corn was late in the season or something but I have hope that they will get it right next time. Maybe it was because I was comparing it to the incredible one I had at Chikalicious which was so fresh tasting it was like biting into raw corn. This flavor at Capogiro made me cry a little for what could have been!
