Neo-giro: classics and good-byes

I do enjoy the game of recreating other foods out of gelato. In the past, we've tried the pb&j, pasta sauce, cannoli. Now, I went for the classic ice-cream combo: Neapolitan. I selected Cioccolato Scuro (bittersweet chocolate), Fragola con Panna (strawberries gelato), and Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla.

The Vanilla and Strawberry played well with each other. I suppose I could have gone with a Strawberry sorbetto so I could have mixed in an even lighter texture against the Vanilla, but I do prefer the gelato. But the dark chocolate, while good, overpowered the other two. Cioccolato Scuro is a bulldozer. I should have remembered that and gone with a lighter chocolate.

I would definitely do a similar combo again: Cioccolato, Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla, and Fragola (sorbetto). It's a childhood favorite that's all grown up.

I mentioned good-byes. Adam, one of our favorites, has left the building. He's off to Greenland or Iceland or somewhere else that is very cold and ends in "-land". Since he's headed to such a frigid environment, we can only assume he is on a quest... for it is only in such a tundra that he and gelato can become one... a Man-Gelato or Gelatoman. We don't really know what he'll do once he is of tasty, yummy dessert, but who are we to stomp on someone else's dreams. Regardless, we wish him well and hope that no polar bears eat Gelatoman.

  2. Goodbye Adam- Your combinations were legendary. Thank you so much for the peanut butter and jelly which will stand as one of the best combos ever. I was always happy when you scooped our Gelato and told us what combo we should try that day.
